IN CONVERSATION
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exploited the failures of our current systems, including the persistent structural barriers constraining women’s economic justice and rights. In particular, paid and unpaid care and domestic work – already historically disproportionately placed on women and girls – has increased dramatically, and data shows that women continue to shoulder an unequal portion. This conversation will discuss how to solve this unequal divide and what is needed for women to be able to invest time in themselves, get access to social protection, education, and labor rights, and enhance their ability to take part in social or political life. It will highlight how a care economy that equitably shares and values care and domestic work is a huge opportunity for the entire society.
