IN CONVERSATION
And first, vaccines. The COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over – and the threat of COVID-19 anywhere is a threat to everyone, everywhere. Vaccine nationalism is both a symptom of existing and a driver of new inequalities in the world. The only way out of the current crisis is by filling the void that is political will and strengthening global solidarity between and across regions to ensure vaccines for all, quickly. In our race against the variants, this conversation will address why vaccines must be made a global public good, available, and affordable to all. As part of our wider socio-economic response and recovery to COVID-19, the conversation will also highlight the ongoing efforts to make communities more resilient in the face of future pandemics. There is a unique opportunity to reimagine and reshape global health systems.
In a short yet strong video message, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will set the tone for vaccine equity and reimagining health systems that put people at the center of health decisions and investments. Looking back at the discovery of vaccines, he will point out why they are now more important than ever, and need to reach everyone, everywhere during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
