IN CONVERSATION
Women are often the hardest hit during conflicts and crises. As the world struggles to respond to multiple, ongoing humanitarian conflicts and disasters, the United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund supports women and their local organizations to be a force for crisis response and lasting peace, galvanizing support from across the globe and across sectors. As it has been proven that when women are empowered to meaningfully participate in conflict resolution, it results in more lasting peace, the inclusion of women’s voices in situations of peace, security and humanitarian needs cannot and should not be undervalued. In this session, Ghita El Khyari, the Head of the Secretariat at the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund will be joined by civil society activist and WPHF partner Karen Tanada of the Gaston Z. Ortigas Peace Institute in the Philippines to discuss the impact of global conflicts and the potential of women to prevent crises and ensure lasting peace.
