At the nexus of human rights, labor rights, gender equality, social protection and responsible production and consumption, it is an urgent global problem -modern slavery. The statistics are alarming: an estimated 40.3 million people live in modern slavery today, 1 in 10 of which are children and 71% are women and girls. This In Conversation will discuss the horrific and lasting impact of modern slavery on individuals and societies, and what needs to be done to eradicate it for good. Every year a total of $354 billion worth of at-risk products are imported by G20 countries, today’s producers and consumers have a new and urgent responsibility to ensure supply chains and products they manufacture, sell and purchase are never touched by modern slavery.
